Scope

This document describes the method of measuring the noise of tires installed on test vehicles under inertial rolling conditions. Inertial rolling refers to a state where the vehicle is not powered and the tires are in a free-rolling state. This is typically achieved by placing the transmission in neutral or an equivalent position, and simultaneously shutting down the engine and all auxiliary systems that do not affect safe driving.
This document is applicable to car tires and truck tires. It is not suitable for measuring the noise of tires under normal driving conditions or for measuring the traffic noise and hazard level at a given location under normal driving conditions of the vehicle.
