GB/T 20895.3-2007 Small craft—Stability and buoyancy assessment and categorization—Part 3:Boats of hull length less than 6 m
Basic Information
Scope
This part of GB/T 20895 specifies the methods for assessing the stability and buoyancy of intact (i.e., undamaged) boats, as well as the buoyancy of boats prone to waterlogging and sinking. The assessment of stability and buoyancy using this part can help determine the design category (Category C or D) for each boat that is appropriate for its design load and maximum load. This part is primarily applicable to boats less than 6m in length that are propelled by human or mechanical power, except for habitable multihull sailboats. Boats less than 6m in length with a full deck and a rapid water drainage stern compartment that meet the requirements of GB/T 20896 can be evaluated according to GB/T20895.1 or GB/T20895.2, respectively. In this case, a higher design category may be specified. This part does not include: — Toy boats; — Canoes, kayaks, or other boats less than 1.1m wide; — Inflatable boats and rigid inflatable boats less than 8m in length as covered by ISO 6185; — Personal boats as covered by ISO 13590; — Hydrofoil and air-cushion boats that rely on power-assisted propulsion; — Submarines. This part does not consider or evaluate the impact of towing, fishing, dredging, or lifting operations on stability. Such situations should be considered separately (if applicable).
