Scope

This standard is one of a series of standards related to the sampling and testing of paints, varnishes, and related products.
This standard specifies a method for determining the content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in paints, varnishes, and their raw materials, and is primarily applicable to samples with a VOC content greater than 15% (by mass). When the expected VOC content is greater than 0.1% (by mass) but less than 15% (by mass), GB/T 23986 should be used.
This method assumes that the volatile substances are water or organic matter. If there are other volatile inorganic compounds, they need to be quantitatively determined using other appropriate methods and their amounts should be subtracted during the calculation.
