Scope

This document specifies the general principles to be followed in preparing samples of thermosetting powder molding compounds (PMCs), and provides a design for molds used to establish reproducible molding samples. The aim is to promote consistency in describing the main parameters of the molding process and to standardize the reporting of molding conditions. The special conditions required for preparing reproducible samples vary depending on the material used. These conditions are specified in the standards for the relevant materials or agreed upon by the relevant parties. Note: Cyclic tests on phenolic (PF), urea-formaldehyde (UF), melamine (MF), melamine-phenolic (MP), and unsaturated polyester (UP) injection molding materials have shown that mold design is an important factor in the reproducible preparation of samples.
