Scope

This document specifies three CIE standard illuminants used in colorimetry: CIE standard illuminant A, used to represent typical tungsten lighting; CIE standard illuminant D65, used to represent average daylight with a correlated color temperature of approximately 6,500 K; and CIE standard illuminant D50, used to represent daylight with a correlated color temperature of approximately 5,000 K. This document specifies the relative spectral power distribution values of the three illuminants.
This document is applicable to fields related to the visual evaluation and objective measurement of the color reflected, transmitted, or scattered by objects (materials), as well as to fields related to the manufacturing and application of simulated illuminant light sources.
