GB/T 39560.6-2020 Determination of certain substances in electrical and electronic products—Part 6:Polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in polymers by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)
Basic Information
Scope
This part of GB/T 39560 specifies a technical specification and two informative appendices for determining polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in polymers of electronic and electrical products.
The gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) test method is suitable for determining one-brominated to ten-brominated biphenyls (PBBs) and one-brominated to ten-brominated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs).
Appendix A and Appendix C are ion attachment mass spectrometry (IAMS)-direct injection probe (DIP) combined methods and high-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array or ultraviolet detector (HPLC-PDA/UV) methods, respectively. These techniques can be used for rapid qualitative or semi-quantitative testing, but they are subject to interference or limitations due to the quantity and type of PBBs and PBDEs compounds.
The ion attachment mass spectrometry (IAMS) technique is limited to determining decabrominated biphenyls and industrial mixtures of decabrominated diphenyl ethers, octabrominated diphenyl ethers, and pentabrominated diphenyl ethers flame retardants. The determination of other PBBs or PBDEs by this method has not been evaluated yet.
The high-performance liquid chromatography technique is limited to determining decabrominated diphenyl ethers, octabrominated diphenyl ethers, and industrial mixtures of decabrominated and octabrominated flame retardants. The determination of other PBBs or PBDEs by this method has not been evaluated yet.
This part has evaluated high-impact polystyrene (PS-HI) and polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene blends (PC/ABS) with single PBDE content ranging from 20 mg/kg to 2,000 mg/kg and total PBDE content ranging from 1,300 mg/kg to 5,000 mg/kg, as described in Appendix F. The method has not been specifically evaluated for other types of polymers, PBBs, or other PBDE compounds, or for cases outside the above-mentioned ranges.
