GB/T 45172-2024 Sensory analysis methodology—Guidelines for the measurement of the performance of a quantitative descriptive sensory panel
This document provides guidelines for evaluating the overall performance of sensory evaluation teams and the individual performance of evaluators.
This document is applicable to validating the training effectiveness of individual evaluators or the overall performance of established evaluation teams, as well as managing the performance of evaluation teams and individual evaluators in distinguishing different products, assessing the consistency among different evaluators within the same team, and monitoring and evaluating the repeatability of evaluators in attribute intensity scoring.
This document is not applicable to the following situations:
—— Evaluating the performance of teams using descriptive methods such as Consensus Profiles (CP), Free Choice Profiles (FCP), Free-Choice Preference Ranking Profiles (FP), and Time-Domain Dominance Testing (TDS), including not recording individual evaluator scores, not having a single attribute list common to all evaluators, or evaluators only identifying dominant attributes without measuring attribute intensity.
—— Evaluating the reproducibility of evaluation teams, including comparisons between evaluation teams and comparisons of multiple evaluations conducted by the same evaluation team under different conditions (such as at different times).
The methods listed in this document are not comprehensive. Team leaders (or sensory analysts) may use all or some of the methods provided in this document to continuously evaluate the performance of sensory teams or individual evaluators, or use other suitable methods.
