Scope

This standard specifies the classification, safety performance requirements, and marking of civilian primary batteries; guidelines for the selection, use, replacement, and disposal of civilian primary batteries; and guidelines for the safe design of battery compartments in electrical appliances. This standard applies to the production, testing, and acceptance of all types of aqueous electrolyte primary batteries for civilian use (alkaline and non-alkaline zinc-manganese dioxide batteries, zinc-silver oxide batteries, zinc-hydroxide nickel batteries, alkaline and neutral zinc-air batteries), as well as all types of lithium primary batteries (lithium-fluorocarbon batteries, lithium-manganese dioxide batteries, lithium-thiosulfate batteries, lithium-iron disulfide batteries, lithium-sulfur dioxide and lithium-copper oxide batteries, etc.).
