Scope
This standard specifies the methods for measuring and characterizing the output of ultrasound therapy equipment based on reference test methods, the characteristics specified by ultrasound therapy equipment manufacturers based on reference test methods, safety guidelines for ultrasound sound fields generated by ultrasound therapy equipment, methods for measuring and characterizing the output of ultrasound therapy equipment based on routine test methods, and acceptance criteria for the output of ultrasound therapy equipment based on routine test methods. This standard applies to ultrasound equipment designed for therapeutic purposes, which generates continuous or quasi-continuous waves at a frequency range of 0.5 MHz to 5 MHz using ultrasound transducers. This standard only concerns ultrasound therapy equipment that uses a single plane circular non-focused transducer in each treatment head to generate non-scanning beams perpendicular to the end face of the treatment head. This standard does not include the therapeutic parameters and usage methods of ultrasound therapy equipment.
