Scope

In the assessment of environmental noise limit values and spatial studies, scenario comparison is based on sound pressure levels. This document describes how to determine sound pressure levels. Sound pressure levels can be determined through direct measurement and extrapolation of measurement results. This document is mainly used for outdoor environments, but it also provides some guidelines for indoor measurement. To a large extent, the measurement uncertainty determined and reported in each case varies, which is inseparable from the effort put into the measurement by the user. Therefore, no limits are set for the maximum allowable uncertainty. Due to the differences in operating and propagation conditions during actual measurement and the reference operating or propagation conditions, the measurement results are usually combined with calculations to correct the measurement results.
This document is applicable to all types of environmental noise sources, such as road and rail traffic noise, aircraft noise, and industrial noise.
