Scope
This document provides guidance on the planning, design, and installation of laser displays and performances using high-power lasers in the wavelength range of 380 nm to 780 nm.
This document does not apply to the display or demonstration of laser products in scientific, medical, or industrial environments. However, some of the principles in this document may be relevant to such applications. This document provides safety recommendations for laser displays and performances used in demonstrations of optical principles, artistic exhibitions, advertisements, light sculptures, or museum exhibits.
Laser products intended for use in home environments, or laser equipment requiring no specialized training, are typically limited to Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3R visible laser products. Therefore, their use is outside the scope of this document.
Image projectors classified according to IEC 62471-5 and laser illuminators that comply with the provisions of GB/T 7247.1–2024, Section 4.4, are not within the scope of this document.
This document contains safety guidelines for protecting the public or service personnel near laser displays.
This document applies to the following individuals:
— Designers, manufacturers, assemblers, installers, or operators of Class 4, Class 3B, or Class 3R invisible laser products intended for display or entertainment purposes;
— Operators of performance venues, theaters, music festivals, television studios, planetariums, nightclubs, or other locations where such laser products are installed and operated;
— Individuals responsible for reviewing the safety of such equipment, devices, or displays.
This document serves as a safety guideline for the design, installation, operation, and evaluation of laser displays and performances, as well as the equipment used in them. It also applies to individuals who modify laser display devices or equipment.
