Scope
This document specifies the principles, test equipment, samples, test procedures, and test reports for determining the tensile strain hardening index (n value) of metal sheets and strips.
This method is only applicable to the portion of the stress-strain curve that shows a monotonically increasing trend within the range of plastic deformation (see 8.4).
If the stress-strain curve of the material exhibits a sawtooth pattern during the work hardening stage (such as the Portevin-Le Chatelier sawtooth yielding effect observed in some AlMg alloys), in order to ensure the reproducibility of the results, an automatic measurement method is used (linear regression of the logarithm of the true stress and the true plastic strain, see 8.7).
