Scope

This part of GB/T 20936 specifies guidelines and operational procedures for the selection, installation, safe use, and maintenance of Class II combustible gas detectors used in industrial applications and commercial safety applications that comply with the requirements of GB/T 20936.1-2017. This part applies to oxygen detectors that achieve explosion-proof requirements by inerting to eliminate oxygen rather than eliminating combustible gases or vapors. This part is a summary of practical knowledge and applies to equipment, instruments, and systems that use electronic signals from gas sensors to display readings on instruments, simultaneously triggering preset audible and visual alarms, or activating other devices, or a combination of the above actions to indicate the presence of combustible or potentially explosive gas or vapor/air mixtures. Since the accumulation of combustible gas/air mixtures can pose a hazard to life and property, such equipment can be used to issue warnings as a way to reduce risks. It can also be used to initiate specific safety measures (e.g., equipment shutdown, evacuation, or activation of fire suppression procedures). This part applies to all newly installed permanent devices, and if feasible, to existing permanent devices. This part also applies to new or existing temporary devices. This part also applies to the safe use of portable or mobile detectors (regardless of their age or complexity). Since most modern devices of this type also include oxygen-deficient detection and/or specific toxic gas sensors, additional guidelines are provided for these devices as well.
