GB/T 20936.2-2024 Gas detectors for explosive atmospheres—Part 2:Selection,installation,use and maintenance of detectors for flammable gases and oxygen

Scope

This document provides guidelines and operational procedures for the selection, installation, safe use, and maintenance of Class II combustible gas detectors used in industrial and commercial safety applications and Class I combustible gas detectors for underground coal mines, in accordance with the requirements of GB/T 20936.1 or GB/T 20936.4. This document is applicable to oxygen detectors that achieve explosion-proof requirements by inerting to eliminate oxygen rather than removing combustible gases or vapors. A similar application is measuring oxygen in inerted voids in underground coal mines. This document is a compilation of practical knowledge, suitable for equipment, instruments, and systems that use electronic signals from gas sensors to display meter readings, trigger preset audible and visual alarms, or activate other devices, or a combination of these actions to indicate the presence of combustible or potentially explosive gas or vapor/air mixtures. Since the accumulation of combustible gas/air mixtures can pose hazards to life and property, such devices can provide warnings as a means of reducing risks. They can also be used to initiate specific safety measures (e.g., equipment shutdown, evacuation, or fire suppression procedures). This document applies to fixed installations and mobile equipment, as well as the safe use of portable detectors. Since most modern devices of this type also include oxygen-depletion detection and/or specific toxic gas sensors, additional guidance is provided for these devices. In this document, combustible gases include combustible vapors, unless specifically stated otherwise. Due to current measurement technologies, this document does not include mist.
