Scope
This document describes the hardness control method for preventing sulfide stress cracking (SSC) in welds of pipelines and equipment exposed to acidic environments, and specifies the requirements for hardness control.
This document is applicable to welds manufactured for carbon steel and low-alloy steel pipelines and equipment with a minimum tensile strength of no more than 490 MPa, as well as construction welds.
This document does not include other types of environmental cracking caused by hydrogen sulfide environments, such as stress-induced hydrogen cracking (SOHIC) and soft zone cracking (SZC).
