Scope

This part of GB/T 18851 specifies the penetrant testing method for detecting surface discontinuities (such as cracks, heavy skin, folds, pores, and non-fusion) in the tested materials. This method is mainly used for metal materials, but it can also be used for other materials, as long as these materials are not porous and are inert to the testing medium. Examples of tested materials include castings, forgings, welds, ceramics, etc.
The term "discontinuity" used in this part includes all undetermined acceptable or unacceptable meanings.
GB/T 18851.2 and GB/T 18851.3 specify the methods for determining and monitoring the practical performance of penetrant testing products.
