GB/T 7247.2-2018 Safety of laser products—Part 2:Safety of optical fibre communication systems(OFCS)

Scope

This section provides safety operation, maintenance requirements, and specific guidelines for optical fiber communication systems (OFCS). In OFCS, optical power can reach levels beyond the limits of transmission equipment or at distances far from the light source.
This section specifies the assessment of the hazard level of optical reachable locations in OFCS, replacing the classification of laser products according to GB 7247.1. This section applies to fully installed end-to-end OFCS, including components and assemblies capable of generating or amplifying optical radiation. Those standalone components and assemblies sold only to OEM suppliers for integration into fully installed end-to-end OFCS do not need to be evaluated according to this section, as the final OFCS itself must be evaluated in accordance with this section.
Note 1: The above content does not prevent manufacturers from using this section according to contracts or their own requirements.
This section does not apply to fiber optic systems primarily for transmitting laser power, such as applications in material processing or medical fields.
In addition to hazards caused by laser radiation, OFCS may also pose other hazards, such as fire.
This section does not address safety issues such as explosions or fires in OFCS in explosive environments.
In this section, "laser" includes light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and optical amplifiers.
