Scope

This document specifies the requirements for a K-line-based diagnostic communication data link, where one or more vehicle ECUs are connected to an external test device to perform diagnostic functions.
This document specifies the implementation requirements for the diagnostic services described in ISO 14229, which include:
——The byte encoding and hexadecimal value of the service identifier;
——The byte encoding of the diagnostic service request parameters and response parameters;
——The hexadecimal value of the standard parameters.
The vehicle environment in which this document is applied may include a single test device temporarily connected to the on-board diagnostic data link, as well as several on-board ECUs connected directly or indirectly, as shown in Figure 2.
