Scope

This document specifies the requirements for the K-line-based diagnostic communication data link and for connecting vehicles and scanning tools to meet the on-board diagnostics (OBD) requirements for emission-related test data.
This document only specifies the OBD requirements applicable to K-line-based diagnostic communication. The complete requirements for K-line-based diagnostic communication are specified in ISO 14230-1, ISO 14230-2, ISO 14230-3, and ISO 14229 (all parts). Only the content of ISO 14230-1, ISO 14230-2, and ISO 14230-3 explicitly referenced in this document applies to OBD.
