Scope

1.1 This standard specifies norms for improving the safety of in-service elevators, with the aim of applying current safety technologies to achieve the same level of safety for in-service elevators as that of newly installed elevators.
Note: Due to factors such as the design of buildings, it may be difficult to fully meet the current safety standards.
1.2 This standard applies to:
—— Traction or hydraulic elevators;
—— Hydraulic-driven elevators.
1.3 This standard considers the safety of the following personnel:
a) Users;
b) Maintenance and inspection personnel;
c) Persons located outside (but at the closest proximity to) the shaft, machine room, and pulley room;
d) Authorized personnel.
1.4 This standard does not apply to:
a) Elevators that do not conform to the drive methods specified in GB 7588 or GB 21240;
b) Lifting equipment such as chain bucket elevators, mine hoists, theater hoists, automatic cages, material handling equipment, construction hoists, marine hoists, offshore exploration and drilling platforms, and lifting equipment for building maintenance;
c) Lifting equipment with a rail vertical inclination greater than 15°;
d) Safety during the transportation, installation, repair, and dismantling of elevator equipment;
e) Safety during firefighting operations.
However, the improvement of the safety of these in-service equipment can be carried out in accordance with the provisions of this standard.
