Scope

This document describes the test method for determining the fracture toughness of fine ceramics using the Single-Edge V-Notch Beam (SEVNB) method. This method involves loading a sample with a single-edge V-notch under a four-point bending mode or a three-point bending mode until it fails. This document is applicable to the fracture toughness testing of single-phase ceramic materials and ceramic materials reinforced with whiskers and/or particles. However, it is not suitable for fine ceramic materials where sharp cracks cannot form at the root of the V-notch.
