Scope
This standard specifies three rapid screening methods for determining whether food has undergone irradiation: luminescence dating, the DNA comet assay, and microbiological screening.
In this standard, the luminescence dating method is suitable for the irradiation identification of crustaceans, spices, and seasonings; the DNA comet assay is suitable for the irradiation identification of animal products, grains, nuts, fruits, and vegetables; and the microbiological screening method is suitable for the irradiation identification of various fresh foods such as frozen poultry and aquatic products.
