Scope

This document specifies guidelines for the assessment of fire hazards of electrical and electronic products and the development of test methods for fire hazards that pose a direct threat to people, animals, and property.
This document outlines the procedures for identifying suitable fire test methods and operating guidelines for products. The principle of this method is to identify fire-related events (fire situations) associated with the product, determine the degree of correlation between measurable fire performance and the likelihood and consequences of such events, and identify test methods and operational requirements suitable for achieving acceptable fire results or completely eliminating fire events.
This document is intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles set out in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51[10].
One of the tasks of the technical committee is to use this series of standards wherever applicable when preparing standards in this field. Unless specifically mentioned or listed in the relevant standards, the requirements, test methods, or test conditions of this document will not apply.
