Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, safety technical requirements, and test methods for step-type lawn mowers powered by gasoline (diesel) engines (hereinafter referred to as lawn mowers), as well as user manuals and markings.
Some major hazards that should be eliminated or reduced in accordance with this standard are listed in Appendix A.
This standard also applies to corresponding components of step-type lawn mowers powered by other internal combustion engines, as well as tow-and-ride lawn mowers except for passenger accessories.
This standard does not apply to riding lawn mowers, nor to lawn mowers whose cutting components are non-metallic flexible wires or free-centered non-metallic cutters, and whose cutting energy (kinetic energy) per cutting component does not exceed 10 J.
