Scope
This standard specifies the capability requirements for instruments used in instrumented nanoindentation testing and the basic testing methods. It also stipulates the requirements for instrument calibration and inspection, indenter, standard samples, and the determination method of the instrument's flexibility and indenter area function. It also provides the data analysis method required for determining hardness and material parameters, and the precautions for using the indenter.
This standard is applicable to testing the hardness and modulus of various bulk materials and thin films. The indentation depth range is typically in the nanometer scale, but it can also be extended to several micrometers.
