Scope

This document describes three methods for determining the ash content of raw rubber, compounded rubber, or vulcanized rubber.
This document is applicable to raw rubber, compounded rubber, or vulcanized rubber of M, N, O, R, and U classes as described in GB/T 5576, subject to the following restrictions:
—— Method A is not suitable for determining the ash content of compounded or vulcanized rubber containing chlorine, bromine, or iodine;
—— Method B is suitable for determining the ash content of compounded or vulcanized rubber containing chlorine, bromine, or iodine, but is not suitable for uncompounded rubber;
—— Method C is suitable for determining the ash content of raw rubber and natural rubber compounded or vulcanized rubber that do not contain chlorine, bromine, or iodine, with the determination being conducted using ash-free filter paper.
In all cases, the three methods may not yield identical results.
This document does not include an explanation of the ash content generated by inorganic vulcanization agents in compounded or vulcanized rubber. This is the responsibility of analysts, who need to understand the characteristics of various rubber vulcanization agents at high temperatures.
