Scope

This document specifies a naming system for polystyrene (PS) thermoplastic materials, which serves as the basis for classification.
Different types of polystyrene (PS) thermoplastic materials are distinguished by a classification system based on the values of specified characteristic properties, as well as their recommended applications and/or processing methods, important performance characteristics, additives, colorants, fillers, and reinforcing materials:
a) Vicat softening temperature;
b) Melt mass flow rate.
This document applies to all amorphous polystyrene homopolymers. It applies to materials in conventional forms such as powders, granules, or crushed particles, whether unmodified or modified with colorants, additives, fillers, etc.
This document does not apply to expandable polystyrene, styrene copolymers, homopolymers of styrene derivatives, or polystyrene products modified with other polymers (such as elastomers).
This document does not imply that materials with the same name must have the same performance. It does not provide the engineering data, performance data, or processing condition data required to describe the special applications and/or processing methods of materials. If necessary, these additional properties can be determined using the test methods specified in GB/T 6594.2.
