Basic Information
Scope
This part of GB/T 20972 provides requirements and recommended practices for the selection and evaluation of carbon steel and low-alloy steel used in equipment in hydrogen sulfide (H2S)-containing environments in oil and gas extraction and natural gas processing plants. The failure of such equipment can pose risks to public safety, personal health, and the environment. The use of this part helps to avoid such costly corrosion damage. This part supplements appropriate design specifications, standards, and guidelines, but does not replace their requirements for materials. This part describes the performance of steel against damage caused by sulfide stress cracking (SSC) and related phenomena such as stress-oriented hydrogen-induced cracking (SOHIC) and soft zone cracking (SZC).
