Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies the general requirements, testing equipment, technical grade of testing, process documents and working procedures, testing methods, analysis of testing data, defect evaluation and quality grading, as well as testing records and reports for the TOFD testing of pressure-bearing equipment made of welded plastics using the diffraction time-of-flight ultrasonic testing method (hereinafter referred to as "TOFD testing"). This document applies to the TOFD testing of butt joints of pressure-bearing equipment made of welded plastics using the hot-melt welding process, with a wall thickness of 10 mm to 70 mm, and materials such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) thermoplastic sheets, pipes, and fittings. This document applies to the detection of inclusions, holes, cracks, fusion surface defects, and cold welding defects in the hot-melt welding joints of thermoplastic materials. This document does not apply to the detection of over-welding, insufficient fusion surface, and misalignment defects in the hot-melt welding joints of thermoplastic materials.
