Scope

This standard specifies a method for evaluating the corrosion resistance of metals through immersion testing in salt solutions, with and without external stress. This standard is applicable to the quality control of metals, including aluminum alloys and steel materials, during the manufacturing process, as well as to the evaluation of alloys during the R&D process. Based on the chemical composition of the test solution, this standard can simulate the corrosion effects of seawater spray zones, deicing fluids, and acidic salt environments. In this standard, the term "metal" includes metal materials with or without anti-corrosion coatings. The immersion test is suitable for: -- metals and their alloys; -- certain metal coatings (cathodic and anodic coatings relative to the substrate); -- certain conversion films; -- certain anodic oxide layers; -- organic coatings on the surface of metals.
