Scope

This document specifies a method for determining polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in polymers and electronic components of electronic and electrical products. These PAHs have been particularly found in plastic and rubber components of a large number of consumer products. They exist as impurities in some raw materials used for the production of such products, especially in filler oils and carbon black. These impurities are not intentionally added to the products, nor do they play any specific function as components of plastic or rubber components.
This document is applicable to the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in polymers and electronic components of electronic and electrical products. This method has been validated for plastic and rubber materials, including acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) with a single PAH content of 37.2 mg/kg to 119 mg/kg, and rubber with a single PAH content of 1 mg/kg to 221.2 mg/kg.
