Scope

This document specifies the strategies for sampling and mechanical sampling from electronic and electrical products. These samples can be used for analyzing the content of certain substances using the detection methods specified in other parts of IEC 62321. The restrictions on substances vary by region and time. This document describes the general process of obtaining and preparing samples before determining the content of substances of concern.
This document does not provide the following:
—— Detailed guidelines for each product classified as electronic and electrical equipment. Given the wide variety of electronic and electrical equipment with different structures and processes, as well as the continuous innovation in the industry, it is unrealistic to provide disassembly procedures for all types of electronic components.
—— Guidelines for collecting additional information on certain substances in products through other methods, even if the information collected according to the guidelines is related to the sampling strategies in this document.
—— Safety disassembly instructions and mechanical disassembly instructions for electronic and electrical products (e.g., switches containing mercury) and the recycling industry (e.g., how to handle cathode ray tubes (CRTs) or safely remove batteries). For the disassembly and mechanical sampling of mercury-containing fluorescent lamps, see IEC 62554.
