GB/T 40733-2021 Non-destructive testing of welds—Ultrasonic testing—Use of automated phased array technology
Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies the semi-automatic or fully automatic phased array ultrasonic testing of fusion welded joints in metal materials with a base metal thickness of not less than 6 mm.
This document is applicable to fully penetrated welded joints of base metals and welds made of low-alloy or fine-grained steel plates, pipes, and containers. The detection of welded joints of other materials can also be used for reference.
This document presents the advantages and limitations of phased array ultrasonic technology in detecting fusion welded joints. In the manufacturing process, pre-service inspection, and in-service inspection, phased array ultrasonic technology can be used independently or in combination with other non-destructive testing methods or technologies.
This document specifies four detection levels, with different levels corresponding to different defect detection rates.
This document specifies that discontinuities can be evaluated based on length and maximum echo amplitude (equivalent reflector size), or length and height.
This document does not specify the acceptance level of discontinuities.
This document is not applicable to the automatic phased array ultrasonic testing of welds in steel products during the manufacturing process as specified in ISO 10893-8, ISO 10893-11, and ISO 3183.
