Basic Information
Scope
This document describes a test method suitable for samples made from solid electrical insulating materials. The test measures the time required for the sample to ignite when subjected to the thermal effects of an electric heating wire wrapped around it. If the sample produces melt droplets, the time of the droplet falling is recorded. The test method can be used for quality assurance grading, as well as for pre-selecting product materials as described in IEC 60695-1-30, or for verifying the minimum grading required for materials used in finished products. This document is intended for product committees to prepare standards in accordance with the principles set forth in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. One of the tasks of the product committee is to use this series of standards wherever applicable when preparing standards in this field. Unless specifically mentioned or listed in the relevant standards, the requirements, test methods, or test conditions of this document will not apply.
