GB/T 5169.12-2024 Fire hazard testing for electric and electronic products—Part 12:Glowing/hot-wire based test methods—Glow-wire flammability index (GWFI) test method for materials

Scope

This document specifies in detail the glow-wire flammability index (GWFI) test method for determining the flammability of solid electrical and electronic insulating materials or other solid materials.
GWFI is the highest temperature measured according to this standardization procedure. At this temperature, the tested material does not ignite, or even if ignition occurs, the flame will be extinguished within 30 seconds after the removal of the glow wire, and the tested material will not be completely burned out; if droplets occur, they will not ignite the packaging tissue paper.
This test method is used to test materials on a series of standard samples. The obtained data, together with the data obtained by the IEC 60695-2-13 glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT) test method, are evaluated according to the IEC 60695-1-30 pre-selection procedure to determine whether the materials meet the requirements of IEC 60695-2-11.
Note: As a result of the fire hazard assessment, a series of appropriate pre-selection tests for flammability and ignitability can reduce the number of finished product tests.
