Scope

This document specifies in detail the glow-wire test method for conducting flammability tests on samples of solid electrical insulating materials or other solid materials, with the aim of determining the glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT).
GWIT is a temperature that is 25°C (or 30°C) higher than the highest temperature measured by this standardized test procedure. During the test, the tested material does not ignite, and any flame phenomena that occur last no longer than 5 seconds. Moreover, the sample does not completely burn out during the test.
