Scope
This standard specifies the scope, terms and definitions, classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking, and quality certificates for various structures of smooth or galvanized steel ropes used in elevators with diameters ranging from 6 mm to 38 mm. This standard applies to suspension steel ropes for traction-driven and hydraulic-driven elevators, compensation steel ropes and speed limiters for passenger and freight elevators, and steel ropes for freight, personnel lifting, and moving people between guide rails. This standard does not apply to construction site elevators or temporary elevators or overhead ropeways that are not permanently operated on guide rails, whether carrying people or not.
