Scope

This document specifies a set of standard diagnostic services (OBD services) provided by vehicles and external test equipment (including scanning tools), which can fully, effectively, and safely access all public OBD (on-board diagnostics) services on any vehicle that complies with this document. This document specifies the following: -- The method of establishing communication between OBD-equipped vehicles and external test equipment; -- A set of diagnostic services provided by external test equipment to perform the services defined in ISO 150315. This document does not exclude additional performance or functions of external test equipment. It is the responsibility of the external test equipment designers to ensure that these additional functions or features do not adversely affect the OBD-equipped vehicles (connected to external test equipment) or the external test equipment itself.
