Scope
This document specifies the safety requirements for electrical equipment used in measurement, control, and laboratory applications, including marking and documentation, protection against electric shock, prevention of mechanical hazards, resistance to mechanical stress, prevention of flame spread, temperature limits and heat resistance of equipment, prevention of hazards from fluids and solid foreign objects, protection against radiation (including laser sources) and sound pressure and ultrasonic pressure, protection against released gases and substances, and prevention of explosions and internal explosions. This document applies to the design, production, inspection, and use of electrical equipment used in measurement, control, and laboratory applications (including industrial automation equipment).
