GB/T 5169.28-2008 Fire hazard testing for electric and electronic products—Part 28:Smoke obscuration—Small-scale static test—Materials
Basic Information
Scope
This part of GB/T 5169 specifies the measurement method for the optical density of smoke generated when materials are vertically exposed to a heat radiation source with or without an ignition flame in a confined space (i.e., without ventilation) under specific test conditions.
This part is applicable to samples of non-metallic materials used in electrical and electronic products that are flat and solid.
This method is not suitable for testing non-flat products, such as insulated wires and cables, as it is difficult to obtain a satisfactory heat flux distribution for such samples.
Based on current understanding of actual fire situations, this method may not be suitable for materials that melt and flow away without emitting smoke when directly exposed to a heat flux.
