Scope

This document describes two methods for measuring the surface tension of natural and synthetic rubber:
-- Method A: Platinum ring method (Du Noüy ring method);
-- Method B: Platinum plate method (Wilhelmy plate method).
Method A is suitable for natural and synthetic rubber with a viscosity of less than 200 mPa·s.
Method B is suitable for natural and synthetic rubber that do not contain cationic surfactants.
Methods A and B are also suitable for pre-vulcanized rubber and compounded rubber.
