Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions for bioaccumulation tests of benthic oligochaete annelids in chemical sediments, the necessary information and materials for the test subjects, the test principles, reference materials, instruments and equipment, test systems, test procedures, test validity, and data and test reports.
This standard applies to stable neutral organic compounds (with an lgKow value between 3.0 and 6.0 [4, 10], which are easily combined with sediments), highly lipophilic substances (with an lgKow value greater than 6.0) [4], stable metal organic compounds (which are easily combined with sediments) [9], and chemicals known to bioaccumulate in organisms (such as surfactants or highly adsorptive substances, i.e., high Koc substances).
If parameters such as the volume of benthic substrates and water, and the size of biological tissue samples are not modified in the test design, this standard does not apply to the testing of metals and other trace elements [8].
