Scope

This part specifies the testing methods and acceptance criteria for evaluating the performance of ultrasonic inspection systems (also known as ultrasonic inspection equipment) using appropriate standard calibration test pieces.
This part is applicable to ultrasonic inspection systems used in field or workshop conditions. The methods described in this part are only applicable to A-scan displays, calibrated attenuators with gain controllers or step sizes not exceeding 2 dB, and pulse echo ultrasonic inspection systems primarily using contact methods for detection. These methods are specifically designed for manual inspection equipment. For automatic inspection equipment, different detection methods are required to ensure that its operational performance is met.
This part is not applicable to dedicated ultrasonic thickness gauges.
