Scope

This standard specifies the requirements and recommended practices for steel structures used in drilling and workover operations in the petroleum industry, and provides unified methods for steel structure inspection as well as two product specification levels (PSL). This standard applies to all new steel tower rigs, light rigs (including tethered light rigs and workover rigs), bases, and crown assemblies manufactured after the effective date. Note: Appendix A specifies some standard additional requirements (SR), which are only applicable when specified by the purchaser. Appendix B is an informative appendix on annotations, which is used to help understand this standard. Appendix C is an informative appendix on purchasing guidelines, which is used to assist purchasers in purchasing equipment manufactured in accordance with the requirements of this standard.
