Scope

This standard specifies the safety requirements for fuel cell stacks used in fuel cell electric vehicles in terms of hydrogen safety, electrical safety, and mechanical structure. This standard applies to automotive proton exchange membrane fuel cell stacks. This standard only addresses the hazards posed to humans and the external parts of the fuel cell stack, and does not address the protection of the internal parts of the fuel cell stack. It assumes that such internal damage will not pose a hazard to the external parts of the fuel cell.
