Scope
This standard specifies the classification, requirements, test methods, packaging, marking, and user manuals for dental casting precious metal alloys with a gold and platinum group metal content (mass fraction) of 25% to 75%, and a gold content (mass fraction) of not less than 60%, and a total gold and platinum group metal (platinum, palladium, iridium, ruthenium, and rhodium) content (mass fraction) of not less than 75%. This standard applies to casting precious metal alloys used in the fabrication of dental restorations and devices. This standard does not apply to the metal base materials of metal-ceramic dental restorations.
