GB/T 228的本部分规定了在液氦温度(沸点是-269 ℃或4.2 K，指定为4 K)下金属材料拉伸试验方法的原理、定义、符号和说明、试样及其尺寸测量、试验设备、试验要求、性能测定和试验报告。
本部分适用于金属材料液氦温度拉伸性能的测定。也可适用于需要特殊设备、较小试样以及涉及锯齿形屈服、绝热增温和应变速率影响的低温(温度小于－196 ℃或77 K) 拉伸试验。
