Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies the following requirements for electrical equipment.
a) Enclosures, regarding the material of components, markings (nameplates and labels), ventilation, grounding, electromagnetic compatibility, and short-circuit ratings.
b) Specific requirements for devices used in offshore facilities, such as:
1) Generators and motors;
2) Transformers;
3) Combined switchgear and control equipment;
4) Power supply instrumentation;
5) Semiconductor converters;
6) Batteries and battery packs;
7) Lighting fixtures;
8) Communication equipment;
9) Control and measurement instrumentation;
10) Fittings used in living quarters and similar areas.
This document applies to electrical equipment for mobile and fixed offshore facilities, including drilling, production, accommodation, processing, oil storage, and offloading pipelines, pump stations, or internal cleaning stations, air compressor stations, and single-buoy mooring facilities used in the offshore oil industry.
This document applies to all permanent, temporary, portable, or handheld AC and DC devices, without any voltage level restrictions. Reference equipment standards may specify voltage level limits.
This document does not apply to the following equipment:
——Medical fixed electrical devices;
——Electrical devices for liquid cargo ships;
——Ignition source control devices other than those controlled by electrical equipment.
Note 1: Specific requirements for medical rooms are specified in IEC 60364-7-710. Related requirements for liquid cargo ships are specified in IEC 60092-502.
Note 2: Specific requirements related to electrical equipment in hazardous areas are specified in IEC 61892-7.
Note 3: Guidelines for the protection of non-electrical equipment are specified in ISO 80079-36, ISO 80079-37, and IMO 2009 MODU rules 6.7.
