Scope

This standard specifies the classification, order content, materials, technical requirements, inspection and testing, acceptance, packaging, marking, and quality certificates for steel ropes used in ropeways and ground cable cars.
This standard applies to round-strand steel ropes, compacted strand steel ropes, and sealed steel ropes used in passenger and freight overhead ropeways, ground cable cars, and towing ropeways.
Note: Unless otherwise specified, "freight ropeways" or "passenger ropeways" refer to both types. If not specifically stated as "carrying rope", "transporting rope", "towing rope", "balancing rope", "tensioning rope", "rescue rope", or "towing rope", they are applicable to all seven types of ropeways.
