Scope

This standard specifies the test methods for the pH value, water content, free base or free acid, petroleum ether extractable matter, total alkyl sulfonate, alkyl monosulfonate content, sulfite, sulfate, and chloride content of surface-active agents in the alkyl sulfonate industry.
This standard applies to powdered, slurry, and liquid industrial alkyl sulfonates (excluding any products unrelated to their preparation).
Note: In this standard, industrial alkyl sulfonates refer to alkali metal salts of monosulfonates or disulfonates prepared from straight-chain alkyls without branched-chain compounds through sulfation and sulfoxidation.
